Toasted Sage over Honey Flux by Amy Flores

Bowl by Amy Flores, featuring AMACO Toasted Sage over Honey Flux

Toasted Sage over Honey Flux is a layered glaze combination from the AMACO Potter’s Choice line, widely used by studio potters working at mid-range temperatures. The interaction between these two glazes is driven by contrast: Honey Flux is highly fluid and reactive, while Toasted Sage is more stable and matte-leaning. When fired together, the flux encourages movement, pooling, and subtle color variation without overwhelming the surface.

This balance makes the combination especially appealing for functional ware, where visual interest is desired without excessive gloss or run-off. Depending on glaze thickness and firing conditions, results can range from soft blue-green fields to deeper olive and moss tones, often with gentle breaking along rims and edges

The Seattle Pottery’s Klamath Yellow clay body plays an essential supporting role. Its warmth grounds the cooler sage tones, preventing the palette from drifting cold. At the rim and transitions, the clay subtly asserts itself, adding depth and cohesion to the overall form.
