August 8, 2025August 8, 2025 Obsidian, Deep Firebrick and Albany Slip Brown BMIX Cup By Dan Osorio This beautiful cup showcases a rich, layered glaze combination using AMACO glazes Obsidian, Deep Firebrick and Albany Slip Brown. Applied over Venus White clay and fired to Cone 6 in an electric kiln, the result is a dramatic, high-contrast surface with warm, glowing depth and beautiful lava-like movement. The process starts with three coats of Obsidian as the base glaze. Over this, two thick coats of Deep Firebrick are brushed onto the top two-thirds of the cup, including the inside walls. Finally, two coats of Albany Slip Brown are applied on top of the Firebrick, both inside and out. This layering creates a cascade of rich reds, dark browns, and subtle black undertones, mimicking the look of molten rock or weathered bark. The interior pools into a dark, glossy black, while the exterior blends into fiery, earthy textures that break gently along the surface. The subtle transitions and slight gloss variations enhance its handmade character.
