Fancy Frozen pond on Tangelo Base by Kristie Gamble

This small vessel, titled by Kristie Gamble, beautifully captures the look of shimmering ice over warm earth. The combo is built on an AMACO Tangelo base, layered with three coats each of Spectrum Running Hot Chowder and AMACO Blue Rutile glazes.

During firing, these glazes interact to create a rich, pearlescent surface – cool blue tones blending seamlessly into warm bronze and violet highlights. The effect resembles a frozen pond reflecting a winter sunset, with soft depth and subtle iridescence. The form’s rounded shape enhances the glaze flow, giving it a natural, organic movement.

The result is a striking, jewel-like piece that balances warmth and coolness – a perfect example of Kristie Gamble’s sensitive approach to color layering and glaze chemistry.
