Fired to Cone 6, the piece features Storm Celadon x2 across the lower section and Spectrum Pearl White x2 layered over the upper area. As the glazes melt together, they create a landscape of flowing blues, soft whites, and translucent pools that gather toward the center of the bowl. How Spectrum Pearl White over Storm Develops at Cone 6 The appeal of Spectrum Pearl White over Storm lies in the way the two glazes blend while maintaining their individual character. Storm Celadon contributes deep blue tones that move through the bowl like water currents, while Pearl White introduces milky veils that soften transitions and create areas of contrast. Where the glazes meet, feathered edges and branching patterns emerge naturally during firing, producing details that resemble river deltas, ice formations, or ocean tides seen from above. Spectrum Pearl White over Storm on Laguna B-Mix On Laguna B-Mix, Spectrum Pearl White over Storm develops a luminous surface that highlights both color and movement. The smooth porcelain-like clay body allows the glazes to flow freely, encouraging subtle pooling and layered transparency. In this work by Ursula Lou, the combination transforms a simple bowl into a study of water, light, and mineral color, demonstrating how Cone 6 glaze layering can create complex visual effects from just two carefully chosen glazes. The reaction between Spectrum Pearl White over Storm Celadon on Laguna Bmix clay created a stunning and unexpected effect. The Pearl White glaze softened and blended beautifully with the deep, fluid blues of Storm Celadon, producing organic movement and dramatic contrast. The interaction between the glazes likely caused unpredictable pooling, feathering, or breaking along the surface, adding to the piece’s unique character.
