January 14, 2026May 24, 2026 Mug featuring Mayco’s Passion Flower by Jennifer Esther Brown Cone 6 Stoneware Mug with Mayco Passion Flower This wheel-thrown stoneware mug by Jennifer Esther Brown carries the soft violet tones and layered crystalline blooms that have made Mayco’s Passion Flower glaze so recognizable among Cone 6 potters. Built on Laguna B-Mix clay body, the surface shifts between lavender, pale lilac, pearl white, and deeper pools of purple that settle naturally into every curve and throwing line. The rounded form and sculpted handle give the piece a handmade warmth that pairs naturally with the flowing movement of the glaze. Mayco Passion Flower was applied in three brushed coats and fired in an electric kiln to Cone 6. At this temperature, the glaze develops lighter purple tones and more active blooming across the surface compared to Cone 5, where the color tends to remain darker and more compact. The creamy B-Mix clay body brightens the glaze response and allows the pale floating crystals and soft transitions to remain visible after firing. Areas of thicker application create gentle depth variations that move across the mug like watercolor pigment settling on paper. Mayco Passion Flower on Laguna B-Mix This piece demonstrates how a single commercial glaze can produce layered visual complexity without additional combinations. The glossy finish catches light differently across the throwing ridges and carved details near the handle, giving the mug movement even when viewed from a distance. Fired at Cone 6, Passion Flower develops a surface filled with floating blooms, pale mineral textures, and quiet shifts between cool violet and warm lavender tones. The result feels atmospheric, tactile, and deeply connected to the chemistry of high-fire glaze movement. This glaze performs very differently between cone 5 and 6. Cone 5 is a deeper purple and at cone 6 the purple lightens and the blooms are more dynamic.
