April 8, 2024December 24, 2025 MAYCO Riptide Solo by Jacie Sturm MAYCO Riptide (SW-195) is a satin-matte, opaque turquoise-green stoneware glaze that shows variegated color and visual breakup over texture, creating subtle shifts in tone and interest where it pools or thickens. In oxidized cone-6 firing it tends toward turquoise/green with variegation, and under higher heat or reduction can shift to greyish tones with white/turquoise accents, offering dynamic surface variation. The glaze reacts to application thickness—thinner coats give fine variegation, while thicker areas produce more pronounced breaks and even glossy patches where it pools—making it versatile for expressive ceramic surfaces.
