August 29, 2024May 3, 2025 Galaxy Combo Mug By Elizabeth Crawford The Galaxy Combo is a glazing technique used in pottery and ceramics to create a cosmic, swirling, or speckled effect that resembles a galaxy. This effect is achieved by layering multiple glazes— combination of glossy and matte, opaque and translucent, or different colors—to create depth and movement. In this case, Elizabeth Crawford used AMACO Obsidian as a base, then layered Seaweed, Smokey Merlot, and Indigo Float over it Clay body: Smooth stoneware AMACO Obsidian base x3 AMACO Seaweed x3 AMACO Smokey Merlot x3 AMACO Indigo Float x3 White speckles – just white underglaze flicked on Fired to cone 5,5 Credit: Elizabeth Crawford Mugs Combos Cone 5.5Indigo floatNorthern lightsObsidianSeaweedSmokey MerlotStoneware
