August 5, 2024May 24, 2026 Ancient Copper with Sea Salt and Shipwreck by Laura Brown Ancient Copper with Sea Salt and Shipwreck on Porcelain Clay Laura Brown created this porcelain beer stein using a layered combination of AMACO Ancient Copper, Mayco Sea Salt and Mayco Shipwreck glazes. Fired to Cone 6, the surface develops dense reddish copper tones across the upper section of the mug before breaking into flowing mineral blues, cream and smoky brown movement near the base. The glaze transitions downward naturally during firing, creating long vertical runs that emphasize the height and weight of the stein form. Ancient Copper with Sea Salt and Shipwreck on Porcelain Clay The porcelain clay body beneath the glaze helps intensify both the warm copper surface and the cooler blue-white movement below. In this Ancient Copper with Sea Salt and Shipwreck glaze combination, Ancient Copper dominates the upper half with mottled metallic texture and dark speckling, while Sea Salt softens the transition line between the glazes. Shipwreck introduces atmospheric blue variation along the lower section, where the glaze gathers heavily and develops layered movement around the base of the mug. The handle remains visually connected to the body through the same copper-rich surface treatment.
