Inspiring Snow over Power Turquoise Combo

Snow over Power Turquoise Ocean combo mugs created by Forest & Fern Pottery

This expressive Ocean combo set of mugs by Forest & Fern Pottery captures the beauty of the sea through a complicated glaze combination where main players are AMACO Snow and Laguna Power Turquoise. The result is fresh, dynamic, and full of coastal charm.

The mugs are made from Bmix clay and glazed in the following order from bottom to top:

  • 2 coats of MAYCO Winter Wood
  • 2 coats of MAYCO Sea Salt
  • 3 coats of MAYCO Norse Blue
  • 2 coats of Laguna Power Turquoise
  • Finished with 3 coats of AMACO Snow, applied over the Power Turquoise and on the inside of the mug

The layered application creates a sandy, textured base that transitions into soft foamy whites, turquoise waves, and deep ocean blues. The AMACO Snow glaze flows gently over the Power Turquoise, forming a frothy, breaking-wave effect that adds both movement and depth.

The result is a vibrant yet soothing design that perfectly mirrors a coastal seascape—ideal for anyone who loves the ocean.

Tips from the artist: “I have a template for my sizes, I roll all my slabs at once, then cut all my bottoms and bodies at the same time. Join them all. I can do about 15-20 mugs in about 4 hours with cleanup. Handles come a few days later (I keep them wrapped well), it takes about 6-8 minutes for each handle. And I make about 40 a week (2 building sessions- then whatever time it takes to glaze or carve)”

“I leave them on a tile for the first day bottom down. Then clean up and put bottom up under plastic. Get handles a day or two later, then I leave to dry under 1 sheet of plastic. During this whole process is keep reshaping the rim to keep it round until it’s finally too firm, usually the second-third day under single plastic”
