River Rock, Oatmeal and Ancient Jasper combo

Bright tumbler by Sherry Kirk

This striking tumbler by Sherry Kirk features a complex, layered glaze combo using AMACO River Rock, Oatmeal and Ancient Jasper. The result is a bold surface with rich colors and flowing texture, enhanced by controlled layering and glaze overlap.

The base glaze, River Rock (applied twice), forms the dark, textured backdrop, full of earthy, stone-like qualities. A wide band of Oatmeal is added about half an inch above the base, offering a creamy yellow tone that creates a stunning contrast when overlapped with Ancient Jasper. The Ancient Jasper brings deep, warm reds and golden browns, flowing down and blending beautifully with the Oatmeal and River Rock underneath.

To finish, another band of Oatmeal is layered on top, softening the transition and adding light-catching highlights. The piece is fired to Cone 5 with a 10-minute hold, enhancing glaze movement and interaction.

This glaze combo gives the tumbler a dynamic, almost lava-like appearance—vibrant, textural, and full of handcrafted energy.
