A Milk-fired Torus Candlestick Made to Carry a Story

This beautiful, unique milk-fired Torus candlestick is created at Magical Pottery Studio by Polina Krasavina – a well-known Ukrainian pottery artist and respected ceramics teacher, now living and working in Latvia. Wheel-thrown from Spanish clay and finished with traditional Ukrainian milk firing (milking), it has a stunning warm, “living” tone and a soft, velvety feel—an object that doesn’t just decorate a space, but carries presence, memory, and a story.

Traditional Ukrainian torus-shaped candlestick – an image of the Wheel of the Year, the eternal cycle of time, renewal, and return. On the Christmas table it is lit with three candles, symbolizing the Triune God and the light that comes back into the home.

On the base is the Latvian sign Jumis, a symbol of duality and fertility—life’s doubled strength. It comes from nature: an ear of grain with two tips, long believed to bring luck. The “horns” on the candlestick echo the bull—master and guardian of the household.

In one piece, several cultures meet and strengthen each other: a Ukrainian artist shaping a traditional form, a Latvian symbol anchoring it with the meaning of abundance and doubled life force, and Spanish clay bringing its own earthy warmth to the material. The result feels like a small ritual of unity – heritage and place, craft and belief, home and journey – joined into a single circle that speaks of renewal, protection, and light returning again and again.
