January 21, 2024October 28, 2025 Peacock technique bowl by Ben Walker Peacock technique – Expressive Glaze Application Inspired by intuitive, painterly techniques often seen in the work of artists like, this method uses simple brush patterns to create depth, movement, and glaze interaction Start with a base glaze (dipped or brushed evenly over the piece). Use a brush to apply a second glaze in loose “W” patterns around the surface. Add dots or dabs of a third glaze in scattered areas to create reactive blooms. Optionally, use “S” strokes or light crosshatching for extra movement and texture. Apply glazes heavier near the rim or shoulder to encourage natural downward flow. Let dry completely, then fire to Cone 5–6 (or as appropriate for your glaze). This playful, layered approach can lead to stunning and often unexpected results!
