Different Base Glazes Frozen Ponds by Jon Fiala

Jon Fiala experimented with the “Frozen Pond” glazing technique using different base glazes, expanding its potential and creating beautiful variations.

Kathy McGuire’s “Frozen Pond” glazing technique involves layering specific glazes to create a distinctive, icy appearance on pottery. The original combination includes applying three coats of Amaco’s Obsidian glaze, followed by two coats in dots of Spectrum’s Spectrum’s Running Hot Chowder, and finishing with a coat of Iron Lustre.
