Mandarin, Orion and Cornflower Combo mug by Karen Beebe

This stunning mug by Karen Beebe features a bold and fiery glaze combination known as the “Mandarin, Orion and Cornflower combo.” It’s inspired by the intense contrast of molten lava and cool tones, creating a dynamic and eye-catching effect. The glaze flows and blends in a way that brings a strong sense of movement and texture.

The base of the mug glows with Laguna Mandarin Orange, applied in two layers for a rich, vivid color. Over that, Coyote Orion is applied generously, creating a deep, speckled brown with striking blue and purple highlights. The glaze flows downward like lava over rock, with a glossy finish that enhances depth and interest.

Inside the mug, Coyote Blue Cornflower adds a calm, cool blue that contrasts beautifully with the fiery exterior. The smooth blending at the handle and rim shows the skillful control of glaze movement, with natural pooling that adds a handmade charm.

The mug is made using Tucker’s MSS white stoneware and was fired to hot cone 6 with a slow cool, which helps the glazes develop their full range of colors and effects. It’s a powerful, energetic piece with both heat and harmony.
