March 26, 2024June 6, 2026 AMACO Glacier Over Kimchi (Spectrum) Cone 6 Combo Porcelain Bowl by Joy Peters Kurtz Soft pink transitions and flowing white movement give this porcelain bowl, featuring AMACO Glacier over Kimchi (Spectrum) a surface that feels almost geological, like mineral deposits slowly forming along a cliff face. Created by ceramic artist Joy Peters Kurtz, the piece combines SPECTRUM Kimchi with AMACO Glacier in a layered Cone 6 firing. The form itself is simple and open, allowing the glaze interaction to become the central focus across the wide curved walls of the bowl. The bowl was made using Porcelain 16 clay body and fired to Cone 6 with no hold. SPECTRUM Kimchi creates the warm coral and raspberry tones near the rim, while AMACO Glacier was applied across the lower two-thirds of the piece. During firing, Glacier softened and descended gently over the porcelain surface, creating pale flowing edges and subtle crystal-like variation where the glazes overlap. The glossy upper band gradually fades into a quieter matte and semi-fluid lower section. Cone 6 Porcelain Bowl with AMACO Glacier This glaze combination AMACO Glacier over Kimchi demonstrates how controlled movement can add depth without overwhelming the form underneath. The porcelain body brightens both glazes and allows even small tonal shifts to remain visible after firing. On this bowl, Glacier and Kimchi create a layered surface that changes depending on light and viewing angle, moving from warm sunset tones near the rim into cool frozen white at the base. The result feels clean, balanced, and deeply connected to the chemistry of Cone 6 glaze firing.
