March 11, 2024January 1, 2026 Sand and Sea Cone 5 combo by Stefanie Montana Sand and Sea Mug by Stefanie Montana This beautiful mug by Stefanie Montana (Germany) is a perfect example of the so-called “Sand and Sea combo.” It is inspired by the natural look of the beach, where the sand meets the sea and sky. The glaze work on this mug features a mix of soft, flowing colors that blend together to create a peaceful, beach-like effect. The bottom of the mug has a sandy color, created using MAYCO Sandstone glaze. It resembles real sand, with darker drip marks that suggest beach grass or stones. Moving upward, the colors shift into soft blues and greens, like ocean waves. This effect is achieved with MAYCO Celadon Bloom, Turquoise, Peacock, and AMACO Sky. These glazes create a layered appearance, showing the varying shades of the sea and sky. Near the top, the mug displays lighter, foamy textures, resembling sea spray or clouds. This look is enhanced with AMACO Sky and MAYCO Light Flux, which add a sense of movement and gentle melting. The glazes flow seamlessly into each other, giving the design a natural and smooth finish. The mug was fired to Cone 5, with a 35-minute hold, allowing the glazes to melt and blend perfectly. Overall, it beautifully captures the calm, relaxing feel of the sand and sea.
