June 28, 2026June 28, 2026 Mayco Alabaster on Black Stoneware Texture by Ali Douglas Textured SiO-2 PRNI Pendant featuring Mayco Alabaster Mayco Alabaster creates a soft, warm surface that looks especially striking on textured black stoneware. In this test, three coats of Alabaster were applied over a black clay body with impressed floral decoration. During firing, the glaze breaks gently over the raised details, allowing the dark clay to remain visible and naturally emphasizing the texture. Rather than producing a bright white finish, Alabaster develops subtle creamy beige tones with delicate variation. The contrast between the satin light glaze and the exposed black edges gives the piece a quiet, organic character that works beautifully for botanical motifs, carved patterns, and stamped designs. This combination demonstrates that Alabaster can perform very well on black clay when used thoughtfully. The glaze highlights surface relief instead of hiding it, making it an excellent choice for artists who enjoy tactile textures and understated, earthy finishes.
