AMACO Glaze Combo Samples by Juliette Vennix Davin

Juliette Vennix Davin

These glaze combo samples by Juliette Vennix Davin beautifully demonstrate the delicate layering and texture possible with AMACO Cone 5–6 glazes on Laguna Bmix clay, fired to Cone 6 using a slow-cool schedule.

The tiles feature a soothing palette of soft turquoise blues, creamy whites, and subtle golden undertones. Each sample showcases a different surface texture – from smooth washes to raised patterns and carved motifs – revealing how the glazes pool and break over edges. The combination of gloss and matte transitions creates a natural, almost aquatic depth, reminiscent of sunlit water over pale sand.

The blue rutile tones interact gracefully with the base glazes, producing varied highlights where the glaze thickens. These tests capture a serene, oceanic feel – cool yet luminous – and show excellent glaze flow control and layering technique.

Bottom ½ - Cobalt x3. Top ½ - Spectrum Soft White. White overlapping Cobalt in the middle. The white moved more than I thought it would but I love what happened at the bottom of the flow. Almost like the foam at the top of a wave! Laguna Bmix clay fired to ∆6 using a slow cool schedule

  • The white overlaps the Ancient Copper about ½”. The white slid all the way down the ancient copper. There are some crystals of ancient copper at the bottom but it created almost an ombré effect
